I believe that ‘educating’ means helping to uncover the critical thinking skills that all people are naturally capable of, and guiding them to apply those skills to an academic setting, which will ensure a real understanding of not only the topic being taught, but the wider subject, other subjects, and real-life problems. As a qualified teacher with over 12 years of experience both in schools and private tuition, my main fascination and curiosity is in the many ways that we all learn; the connection between people’s education and expression is incredibly integral to me. Finding ways to explain the magic of understanding has led me to attain my Qualified Teacher Status, PGCE in Secondary Mathematics, and an Undergraduate Degree in Professional Musicianship, along with a long career as a Mathematics, English and Music theory tutor. One of the most rewarding aspects of my teaching career to date is seeing students change from apathetic to inspired.
